Mikey Garcia Changes His Opinion on the Winner of Canelo vs Crawford
Mikey Garcia explained that his IQ is higher than Canelo Alvarez and if he dedicates himself to boxing, he could complicate things for the Mexican
Mikey Garcia has had a change of heart and now believes Terence Crawford has a chance to beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez when he puts his undisputed super middleweight championship on the line on September 13 in Las Vegas.
On Sal Arteaga's YouTube channel, Garcia explained that his IQ is higher than Canelo Alvarez's and if he dedicates himself to boxing him, he could complicate things for the Mexican.
"Canelo is not that fast or that aggressive. It's like he's on cruise control. He's not one of those who uses his strength and size to dominate all the time. Sometimes, like I say, he's just on cruise control, which allows Crawford, I think, to fight a little more comfortably. Canelo's IQ Crawford, I think, is superb. So, I actually think he could do it,†he said.
“Boxing, boxing, counterpunching, boxing, switching… you know, southpaw to right-handed. Just make it tough for… for Canelo and uh, win a decision. You (Crawford) are not going to hurt him. So it's a win-win decision," he concluded.
According to some experts' predictions, Terence Crawford will be at a disadvantage due to his weight and will not be able to defeat the Mexican, but others believe that size will not be an issue, since the American has the necessary skills to beat the 168-pound champion on his own ground.
After the fight with Cuban William Scull, where the Mexican fighter was criticized for his lackluster performance, many experts in the sport have changed their opinion and see Bud with real opportunities to win because they think the Guadalajara native is in decline.
If the American wins, he would become a three-time champion undisputed in different weight classes and would make history in the sport, while Canelo Alvarez could end Crawford's undefeated record and send him into retirement.
Terence Crawford, 38, became a champion in four different weight classes by defeating Israil Madrimov and remains one of the best pound for pound. The undisputed two-time American champion now has 41 wins, 31 of them by knockout.
For his part, Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez, 34, became the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time after defeating William Scull and now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his professional career.
