PSG defeats Seattle Sounders, qualifies for the round of 16 and scores the historic 100th goal of the Club World Cup
The Champions League champion returned to winning ways this Monday in the game against the Sounders, where there was also history
This Monday in the match between Seattle Sounders and Paris Saint-Germain two important events took place in the Club World Cup, the first was that the historic 100th goal was scored and the second was that PSG qualified for round of 16 after returning to winning ways by beating the Sounders 2-0, following their unexpected defeat against Botafogo a few days ago.

Paris Saint-Germain did not fail this time and sealed their ticket to the next round in a match in which the French team only needed a few touches of quality to claim a victory and secure first place in Group B.
Obliged to win after the unexpected defeat (0-1) suffered against Botafogo, the French team forgot about any type of experiments and opted for the same block that won 4-0 against Atlético de Madrid on the first day of the tournament.
Only one change was introduced by the Spanish coach Luis Enrique Martínez, who dispensed with the Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos in favor of the young Senny Mayulu who acted as a false nine.
The same formation that Paris Saint-Germain used in the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan, but as was clear, Mayulu, a midfielder with arrival, is not Ousmane Dembélé, who is finalising his recovery from the injury he suffered earlier this month with the French national team.
Luckily for the French team, those who continue to perform at the same level as they did in the Munich final are Portuguese midfielder Vitinha and winger Désiré Doué, who had a good chance to open the scoring in the twelfth minute.
Although the clearest chance at the start of the match fell to the Seattle Sounders after a mistake in coming out of the ball by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma., overwhelmed by the pressure from Paul Rothrock, gave the ball to Jesús in the nineteenth minute, who failed to take advantage of the gift and shot wide.
A lack of punch that the American team was quick to pay for after seeing how in the thirty-five minutes PSG went ahead on the scoreboard (0-1) with a goal from the Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who deflected a shot from the edge of the area by the Portuguese Vitinha into the net.
This goal seemed to end the solidity of the locals who conceded in the final minutes of the first half all the facilities that had been denied them at the beginning of the match.
However, despite the brushes of quality of Doué and the good work of the always outstanding Vitinha, Luis Enrique's team had to wait for the second period to definitively sentence the contest and its passage to the round of 16.
This sentence was signed by the Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi, who finished in the sixty-sixth minute (0-2) a counterattack led by Bradley Barcola with which the French team punished one of the few occasions in which the Seattle Sounders, despite the adverse score, dared to look for the opponent's goal.
The home team, with everything already lost, seemed to get rid of that shyness in the final minutes, in which the Seattle Sounders looked to give, at least, a goal to their spirited fans, although if anyone came close to scoring it was PSG in a shot in the 85th minute by Warren Zaire-Emery that was saved off the same goal line by Cameroonian Nouhou Tolo.
But nothing could prevent the victory of the French team, who, benefiting from the victory (1-0) of Atlético de Madrid over Botafogo, finished as leaders of Group B, meaning Luis Enrique's team will face in the round of 16 the second place in Group A, which includes the Brazilian Palmeiras, the Italian Inter Miami, the Portuguese Porto and the Egyptian Al Ahly.
The 100th goal of the tournament
The Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, also known as “Kvaradona” for his ball control and skill on the pitch, scored his 100th Club World Cup goal, opening the scoring against the Sounders at Lumen Field in Seattle.
Kvaratskhelia deflected a shot from the edge of the box from Portuguese midfielder Vitinha into the net with his back in the 35th minute.
Other notable goals
The first goal of the tournament came from Bayern Munich’s French forward Kingsley Coman, who scored the first of ten goals (10-0) that the German team scored against New Zealand’s Auckland City.
Meanwhile, Atlético de Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios scored his 50th goal of the competition after scoring the first of three goals (1-3) as the Madrid team won on June 20. to the American Seattle Sounders.
