Guido Rodríguez, former figure of Liga MX, responds to criticism about Argentina: “It is difficult to have so many years
The world champion and former Liga MX midfielder defended the Argentina team after accusations of refereeing decisions in the World Cup
Argentine Guido Rodríguez, remembered for his time in Liga MX, came out in defense of the Argentina team after the criticism he received for refereeing decisions during his participation in the World Cup.
During his presentation with Valencia, a club with which he renewed his contract until 2028 with the option of one more season, the midfielder assured that he understands the anger of his rivals, but rejected that the Albiceleste's successes are the product of fortune.
"I don't get tired of (being linked to refereeing errors). I try to take it naturally, I understand the fever because it happened to all of us to be on the field and not be charged for something that you think is like that. When I was part of the group I knew the mentality I had; it's not luck, it's something else, and it's proven. Luck for so many years is difficult to have," he stated.
The former Liga MX player lives the World Cup from the outside
Unlike the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where he was part of the champion squad, Guido Rodríguez now follows the tournament as another fan, after not being considered in Lionel Scaloni's squad.
The midfielder acknowledged that it was a complicated situation at the beginning, although he made it clear that he maintains his full support for the Argentine team.
"They are strange sensations, but the moment I knew I was not going to go was another Argentine cheering on the team. It was close, but the team has great players and others who have been left out as well. It is showing the quality and mentality it has," he concluded.
Guido Rodríguez was an important piece in one of the best stages of Argentina
The former Liga MX soccer player was part of the so-called “Scaloneta”, the team led by Lionel Scaloni that won the Copa América 2021, the Finalissima 2022, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and later the Copa América 2024.
Although on this occasion he is not part of the squad seeking to defend the world championship, Guido Rodríguez continues to support the group and defend the work done in recent years.
Guido Rodríguez's time in Liga MX
Before establishing himself in European football and becoming world champion with Argentina, Guido Rodríguez left his mark in Liga MX, where he defended the colors of Club Tijuana and, mainly, Club América.
With the Águilas he became one of the most outstanding midfielders in Mexican soccer, winning the 2018 Apertura and the 2019 Champion of Champions, performances that opened the doors for him to return to European soccer and stay on the radar of the Argentina team.
