Cristiano Ronaldo Al Nassr welcomed their new coach Jorge Jesus
The former Al-Hilal coach will now manage his bitter rival in the Saudi Arabian League and this is how he experienced his first day at the club
The 70-year-old Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus arrived in Riyadh, where he will be the new coach of Al Nassr, the club where Cristiano Ronaldo plays, after signing a one-season contract, as announced by the team through its official X account.
Jesus returns to the Saudi Arabian Professional League just two months after leaving Al Hilal - Al Nassr's direct rival in the Saudi capital -, where he achieved a historic treble in the 2023-2024 season: La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Saudi Super Cup, in addition to establishing the longest streak of consecutive victories in the history of football: 34.
The Portuguese was one of the main candidates to coach the Brazilian national team according to the country's press carioca, a position that Carlo Ancelotti eventually took over after his departure from Real Madrid.
Jesus replaces Italian Stefano Pioli, who did not live up to expectations this season by finishing third in the Saudi Arabian league, thirteen points behind Al Ittihad - captained by French striker Karim Benzema - and failing to qualify for next year's Asian Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the driving force behind Jorge Jesus' arrival at Al Nassr, after renewing his contract with the club until 2027 last June. The Portuguese star welcomed the coach through social media with the message: "Welcome, Mister Jorge Jesus."
Jesus has a trophy cabinet that includes a Copa Libertadores win with Flamengo (2019), three Portuguese league titles with Benfica, and having twice been included in the top 10 of the best coaches in the world compiled by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
