Why so many 2026 World Cup players are wearing pink soccer boots
Pink boots dominate the 2026 World Cup. Brands and experts explain the marketing and visibility strategy behind this trend
It doesn't matter what game you're watching or what team is on the field: the majority of players at the 2026 World Cup are wearing pink soccer boots. Some in fluorescent, fuchsia or magenta, but the case is the same... they seem to have taken over the tournament. Because?
Just two decades ago, wearing pink boots was a way to attract attention, due to the combination of the color with the green of the grass. The first striking models were the 'Nike Mercurial', which became popular for dressing players like Nicklas Bendtner and Neymar.

Pink football boots at the 2026 World Cup: a unified strategy
The expansion of this trend did not arise by chance. Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, virtually all major sports brands launched special collections for the tournament using different variants of pink.
Nike presented the 'Breakout Pack', Adidas responded with the 'Road to Glory Pack', Puma launched the 'Showtime Pack' and New Balance did the same with the 'Pure Ambition Pack'.
Although each collection incorporated different technologies and designs, they all shared one element in common: the predominance of intense pink tones.
The majority of professional designers who were consulted about this phenomenon agreed on the explanation: the visibility of pink on the playing field.
“When you introduce a color like that into a very competitive environment, a very interesting contrast is naturally created,” a New Balance designer explained to GQ Spain magazine.
"It is vibrant and increases visibility, easily standing out on television broadcasts. It is like when all-white football boots became popular. Neon colors for high-performance models are back in fashion," added the expert.
In this sense, for a brand that invests millions of dollars in sponsoring players, making its products identifiable in a matter of seconds has become a priority. The thing is that not one brand did it, but practically all of them.
Pink boots: a reason to go viral and a “symbol” of unity
Beyond the obvious visibility, some designers believe that pink ankle boots are a way to create debate and increase the viral component on social networks. At the same time, and when most footballers use it, a kind of union is created.
"It's a way to spark conversation and encourage personal expression that transcends the usual black or white options" (...) "But there's also something more inspiring about it. I like to imagine a world in which we can all share something that unites us," said a Nike designer to the same magazine.
Although the interpretation may seem more symbolic, it also reflects how the color pink has evolved within the sport, breaking stereotypes.
What was once considered a daring choice is today used by footballers of different ages, cultures and nationalities without any type of specific label.
