Checo Pérez regrets his result in the Miami GP: “I was expecting more, sincerely”
The Mexican driver finished in sixteenth position and has failed to obtain points since his return to Formula 1
The Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez closed a complicated weekend in the Miami Grand Prix of Formula 1 2026, where he finished in the position n 16 without real possibilities of fighting for points with Cadillac, a debutant team in the category and that served as a local this weekend.
Checo Pérez recognizes frustration after the Miami GP
After the race, Sergio Pérez was clear about his feelings after another discreet result in the season:
“I honestly expected more this weekend, but I think we are going in the right direction and the important thing will be to continue there,” the Mexican driver told the media at the end of the race.
However, despite the result, the tapatío defended his individual level on court: “I'm happy and satisfied with my performance. I think I'm managing at a high level,” he said.
Cadillac doesn't take off in Formula 1
The start of the season for Sergio Pérez with Cadillac has been complicated. In four races contested, the Mexican still hasn't managed to add points, with his best result being 15th place in China.
The situation also affects his teammate Valtteri Bottas, who hasn't managed to get into the points zone and finished 18th in Miami.
The main problem: tire degradation
One of the factors that has limited Cadillac's performance in Formula 1 has been tire wear, an aspect which Sergio Pérez himself pointed out as a key: “We have to work a lot to be able to progress”, the Mexican pilot recognised.
From his point of view, the lack of rhythm in long runs has also prevented the team from competing on equal conditions against the rest of the grid.
Duel with Fernando Alonso, the rescuable of the weekend
In the middle of a complicated race, one of the highlighted moments for Sergio Pérez was his on-track confrontation with Fernando Alonso, although without points in dispute.
Regarding that duel, the Mexican commented: “Fighting with the Spanish is always good, because he's aggressive but very clean,” he concluded.
Czech Pérez, under pressure in the 2026 season
The present of Sergio Pérez in Formula 1 2026 generates doubts, especially after his return to the championship after a year away.
Although the driver claims to be in a good level, the results with Cadillac still do not agree. The next race will be key to change the dynamics and start to score points in the championship.
