Chuy Corona Hands Over the Xolos Goalkeeper's Baton to His Son
Jesus Corona, the historic Mexican goalkeeper, is about to retire from the fields and that's why he handed over his gloves and his position at Xolos to his son
The experienced Xolos de Tijuana goalkeeper, Jesus Corona, on the threshold of his retirement from the fields after a brilliant career at Atlas, Tecos de la UAG, Chivas and Cruz Azul, made a statement in a match of preparation in the United States the symbolic act of generational change with his son in goal for the border team.
Beyond the fact that Corona is living his last hours as a professional player before ending a fruitful professional career, he had the opportunity to experience an important moment with his son Jose Miguel Corona, by handing over the Xolos goal to him.
The emotional moment between Corona and his heir took place in the preparation duel between Xolos and San Diego FC, leaving a record of a historic moment, because a father cannot always afford to see his offspring follow in the same footsteps as professionals in Mexican soccer.
The match was part of the first edition of the Baja Cup between both teams on both sides of the border, where the former Cruz Azul goalkeeper came off the field as a substitute and left his place to his son after having defended Xolos' goal for 40 minutes, to hand over his gloves to his son Jose Miguel.
Both Chuy and Pepe Corona did not hesitate to embrace each other sincerely, where a multitude of emotions came flooding back to them, especially when Chuy handed his gloves to his heir to give greater relevance to these moments of generational change.
It is worth remembering that Jesus Corona announced a few days ago that he will retire from the fields when the X face Cruz Azul on September 28, where he will seek not to concede a goal in the last game of his fruitful career.
Regarding this detail, Chuy Corona said that: “It is not regularly seen that a team lets you retire like this… The board headed by Jorge Alberto Hank has allowed me. If this game takes place on September 28, it would mark the end of my career, which makes me happy and motivated,”he said in a video shared by the media outlet 'Siempre En La Noticia'.
For now, Chuy Corona's son is enrolled in the Under 17 category of the Xolos at just 15 years old, in what could be a budding figure, especially with the example of his father.
