DaRon Bland signs contract with Cowboys for $92 million dollars
The cornerback became the sixth highest-paid player at his position
The Dallas Cowboys extended DaRon Bland's contract on Sunday for four years and $92 million dollars, making him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL.
“I'm very happy for DaRon. He's a fundamental piece for us, he made an impact since his rookie season; he deserves it. He's one of those young men that you want as a teammate and competitor. "He's a big talker, but he gives his all on the field," Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said.
Bland, 26, will earn $23 million annually. He will be the sixth highest paid at his position.
The player born in Modesto (California) is distinguished by his speed and anticipation of receivers, qualities that make him one of the most outstanding cornerbacks in the league.
Last year he missed the first 10 games due to a broken foot, so he had modest records of 41 tackles, five passes defended, one forced fumble and one recovery.
Despite this, Cowboys trust that this season Bland will once again shine like he did in 2023, when he exploded with 5 interceptions that he returned for touchdowns, a record in league history.
That season he finished with 9 interceptions, 15 passes defended, 69 tackles, in addition to his 5 returns for 'touchdowns' that earned him a selection to the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro designation.
The Former Fresno State Bulldogs college football star, he entered the NFL after being drafted by the Lone Star team in the fifth round of the 2022 Draft.
In three seasons with the Cowboys, he has accumulated 164 tackles, 14 interceptions, 27 passes defended, and 5 touchdown returns.
Bland and Trevon Diggs form one of the league's best cornerback pairings in Dallas ahead of the start of the season, which the Cowboys will inaugurate with their visit to the champion Philadelphia Eagles on September 4.
