From playing the 2026 World Cup to the classrooms: Gilberto Mora's unexpected achievement that Memo Ochoa congratulated
Gilberto Mora put a cold shoulder to the inertia of the 2026 World Cup to fulfill his academic duties and graduate as a high school student
Gilberto Mora, one of the great promises of the Mexican team, exchanged his boots for his books. After completing her first World Cup challenges in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the national jewel put the ball aside to immerse herself in her academic duties and finish high school in Tijuana.
At just 17 years old, Mora surprised the world by appearing as a starter for the Tricolor under the command of Javier Aguirre in the last three World Cup games against the Czech Republic, Ecuador and England. This Wednesday, the youth attended the Colegio Alemán Cuauhtémoc Hank to officially graduate as part of group 601.
An exemplary student without professional privileges
The footballer left behind the fame acquired in recent weeks to attend his end-of-year ceremony. During the event, the master of ceremonies launched a special request to the graduates: “When you are famous, successful or appear in the news, do not forget your teachers,” was heard in a video shared by the school itself on its social networks.
Despite his status as a professional player, Mora had no outside benefits. When the concentrations with Mexico prevented him from attending the classroom, he caught up through special assignments and online courses, managing to finish with an excellent academic average. In addition, the midfielder is already studying English to prepare for the international challenges that the future holds. The Old Continent and Memo Ochoa's advice
Thanks to his brilliant performance in the FIFA competition, the Xolos de Tijuana youth player is already attracting the interest of teams in the Premier League and Spanish football. Being a minor, his jump to Europe would have to wait until the winter market.
For now, Mora will enjoy a week and a half of vacation before reporting to the border club under the orders of Sebastián Abreu, who continues the mentoring work started at the time by Juan Carlos Osorio in Liga MX.
Congratulations did not take long to arrive from the team's surroundings. Guillermo Ochoa dedicated an emotional message to his young teammate through social networks: "Congratulations, Morita! I am very happy to see you achieve another goal. Football passes very quickly, but people never forget someone who was always a good person," wrote the goalkeeper. The youth's response reflected the good chemistry of the locker room and the notable 23-year age gap between the two: "Thank you, Don Memo; I love you," stated the promise of Mexican football.
