Jason Collins, the first openly gay player in the NBA, dies of cancer

Jason Collins, former NBA player and recognized for becoming the first openly gay player in playing one of the principles cipales professional leagues in the country, died at 47 years due to brain cancer, as reported by his family this Tuesday.
The expivot had revealed in recent months that he was facing a glioblastoma in stage 4, one of the more aggressive forms of brain tumor. After undergoing experimental treatment in Singapore, he managed to return to Es States and participate in some public activities, including the Starry Weekend held in Los Angeles. However, the illness reappeared and he died at his home accompanied by his relatives.
In a statement released by the league, those close to expressed: “We are heartbroken to share that Jason Collins, our beloved husband, son, brother and uncle, has passed away after a brave fight against glioblastoma.” They also added: “Jason transformed lives in unexpected ways and was an inspiration to all those who knew him, as well as those who admired him from a distance.”
