Tension at its peak: the hit-by-pitch in Game 7 of the World Series that almost sparked a fight
Tempers flared between the Dodgers and Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre SkyDome during the World Series
The atmosphere at the Rogers Centre SkyDome in Toronto reached levels of pure tension during Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, when a hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning nearly sparked a full-blown brawl between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays Jays.
It all started with a pitch from 25-year-old left-hander Justin Wrobleski that passed dangerously close to the hand of Toronto's shortstop, Venezuelan Andres Gimenez. The player immediately protested, pointing at the pitcher and accusing him of reckless throwing. Moments later, contact was made: Gimenez was hit by the ball, and the tension erupted into shouting, shoving, and empty benches.
According to lip reading, in the midst of the chaos, Wrobleski reportedly yelled, "F**k you, motherf**ker," further inflaming tempers. Within seconds, players from both teams, along with coaching staff, rushed onto the field to separate those involved.
A confrontation with a history
The incident didn't come out of nowhere. The rivalry between Wrobleski and Gimenez had already begun during Game 6 of the series, when the pitcher struck out the Venezuelan at a crucial moment in the seventh inning, with a runner on second. After the out, the left-hander celebrated exuberantly, something Gimenez seemed not to forget. This time, the context couldn't have been more explosive: Toronto was winning 3-1 when the hit-by-pitch occurred, and every play could change the outcome of the championship. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reacted by removing Wrobleski from the mound later in that same inning to contain the situation and stop a potential Blue Jays rally.
