Mexico will go against rivals from South America: What will the matches be in October and November?
The Mexican national team will face three teams that will be in the 2026 World Cup
The Mexican national team announced that it has agreed to a friendly match with the Uruguayan national team that closes a tour of three South American teams.
“Javier Aguirre (Mexico national team coach) wants the national team to face high-level rivals, who will make it difficult for us and allow us to test the players who can contribute and be present in the World Cup,” explained Ivar Sisniega, president of the Mexican Football Federation.
El Tri will face the two-time world champion on November 15 at the TSM Stadium in Torreon, northern Mexico.
The game between Mexico and Uruguay will be the 24th between the two teams in friendlies and official matches for the Copa America and World Cups.
So far, La Celeste has won eight, El Tri has also taken eight, and the remaining seven have been draws. The last game was last year and Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay won 0-4 with a hat trick from Darwin Nunez.
The duel will serve as the Mexicans to continue their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which they will host along with the United States and Canada.
Mexico will close out 2025 against South American rivals
The next FIFA date will be in October and they will first face Colombia, on October 11 in Texas.
Colombia has just closed out the World Cup Qualifiers with two victories against Bolivia and Venezuela to consolidate their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
Then, Mexico will face Ecuador, on October 14 in Guadalajara. The Ecuadorian team defeated Argentina 1-0 on the final day of the FIFA qualifiers.
These last three rivals of Mexico are already qualified for next year's World Cup.
Uruguay will also play against the United States
Uruguay will play against the United States on November 18 in the United States in preparation for the World Cup.
The clash between Uruguay and the Americans will be the tenth between rivals who have faced each other in friendlies, the Copa America, and the Olympic Games.
La Celeste leads the record with three wins, the United States has two, and the remaining four ended in a tie.
