Miguel Herrera asks that Atlante be treated as a first-class team
“El Piojo” is happy with Atlante's return to Liga MX. Herrera is satisfied with the team's results upon his return
Atlante added its first point in its return to the first division of Mexican soccer. The historic Aztec team returns to elite football in Mexico. Miguel Herrera assured that this is the place where he belongs.
"Atlante has 110 years of history and has played in the first division for 99, so you can't tell me that it is an Expansión team. It won the Expansión three times and tried to climb the right way, but there was no promotion. Now it is a young team that has been working," said Miguel Herrera.
On the second day of the Liga MX, Atlante got its first point in the Apertura 2026. América was its rival at the Banorte Stadium. The azulcrema team started with an advantage after Cristian Borja's goal in the first half. Eugenio Pizzuto scored the equalizing goal in the 65th minute.
"The game doesn't taste like a victory to me, it tastes like a draw because we tied. I'm happy for the boys, it's a great joy, but we still need to improve a lot to get the three points," Herrera added about the match.
Happy with the Atlante squad
Miguel Herrera highlighted the arrival of David Ospina. The Colombian goalkeeper will be one of the club's most valuable pieces. In addition to his level between the three sticks, Ospina is a player with a lot of experience at the European and international level with the Colombian national team. Experience in goal and in the locker room.
"I am happy with what Óscar Jiménez is doing. With the arrival of Ospina, the goal is a problem that we have solved and it is what worries me the least. The team is being completed, Quirós has already arrived and we are still missing a couple of players," concluded the "Piojo".
Atlante's next game will be another complex duel at the Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium. The “Potros de Hierro” will face Cruz Azul, a club that is going at a perfect pace after its two victories at the beginning of the championship (2-3 against San Luis and 1-2 against Puebla).
