The VAR conditioned the Real Oviedo match
The match changed radically in the second time after the VAR intervention in two controversial actions that ended leaving Real Oviedo with two less men.
The first expulsion came at minute 54, when Javi López initially received a yellow card after a dispute with Juan Iglesias. However or, the VAR called the referee Soto Grado to review the action and, after observing the play on the monitor, changed the warning to a direct red.
The decision caused annoyance among players and fans of the Oviedo team, which was already suffering to contain Getafe's attacks.
Later, another referee review ended with the expulsion of Sibo, who hit Mauro Arambarri with his studs after clearing the ball.
With nine players on the field, the scenario seemed completely*adverse for the home team.
Real Oviedo resisted in the Carlos Tartiere
Despite the expulsions, Real Oviedo managed to hold the draw thanks to a solid defensive performance and the interventions of goalkeeper Aarón Escandell.
During the first half, the Asturian team had one of their clearest opportunities when Ilyas Chaira hit a shot on the post after a Hassan cross.
On Getafe's part, Davinchi and Mario Martín demanded the Oviedo goalkeeper, while in the second half Luis Vázquez and Álex Sancris also generated danger for the team led by José Bordalás.
The match was marked by the return of Santi Cazorla to Carlos Tartiere, in what could be one of his last appearances at home after recently acknowledging that his retirement at the season is a real possibility.
Group Pachuca keeps the hope of Real Oviedo alive
With this tie, Real Oviedo adds a vital point in the fight to avoid relegation in LaLiga.
Although the scenario remains complicated for the club owned by Group Pachuca, the defensive reaction of the team left positive feelings among the Carbayona fans.
For its part, Getafe missed an important opportunity to consolidate in European positions after a match in which they had numerical superiority for a good part of the second half, but did not manage to break the defensive order of the Asturian team.
