Ryan Garcia Believes that Pitbull Cruz Can Overcome Lamont Roach
Ryan Garcia said that Roach Jr. is not as good a fighter as many believe and that is why he is betting that Pitbull Cruz will dominate him in the ring
Ryan Garcia believes that Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz, interim world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) at 140 pounds, can defeat Lamont Roach Jr. in the possible fight they will have in December.
In statements to Inside The Ring, Garcia commented that Roach Jr. isn't as good a fighter as many believe, which is why he's betting that Pitbull Cruz will dominate him in the ring.
“It's a good matchup. I think Isaac Cruz can beat Lamont Roach. I think Lamont Roach had the perfect style for Gervonta Davis, but I don't think Lamont Roach is that good a fighter. If you put him in there with any of these other guys, I don't think he'll perform that well. I don't think so,” he said.
According to Mike Coppinger, the Mexican and the American have reached an agreement and the fight is scheduled for December, but the location of the fight is still unknown.
Pitbull Cruz is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Omar Salcido—who came in as a last-minute replacement for Angel 'Tashiro' Fierro—to consolidate his status as WBC interim 140-pound world champion.
In Instead, Lamont Roach Jr. faced Gervonta Davis in a hard-fought bout that ended in controversy, as 'Tank' took a knee in the ninth round and the referee didn't rule it a knockdown because the champion indicated he had something in his eye.
This could have been a determining factor in tipping the scales in favor of Roach Jr., but the final judges scored a majority draw. The American was negotiating a rematch, but 'Tank' accepted a multi-million dollar fight with Jake Paul for November.
Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz, 26, was crowned interim WBC super lightweight champion in Las Vegas and wants to continue adding achievements to his legacy. The Mexican boxer now has a professional record of 28 wins (18 of them by knockout), three losses and one draw.
Meanwhile, Lamont Roach Jr., 29, drew after twelve rounds with Tank Davis in a fight he believes he should have won.The American has a professional record of 25 wins (10 by knockout), one loss, and two draws.
