Zlatan Ibrahimovic analyzes Messi's performance in the World Cup
The former Swedish footballer acknowledged being happy with Messi's performance. Ibrahimovic compared himself to the Albiceleste captain
Lionel Messi is one of the great figures of the 2026 World Cup. The Inter Miami footballer has led the Argentina team perfectly. Zlatan Ibrahimovic highlighted the performance of the captain of the Albiceleste team.
"I had never doubted. You have moments in which he looks human for missing the penalty; but then in most of the moments he doesn't look human. That's Messi," said Zlatan in his intervention as a penalty taker on Fox Sports.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic refers to the penalty missed by Messi in his match against the Austrian team. However, after throwing the shot wide of the goal, Messi scored two goals to lead Argentina's victory.
Messi's goals
Lionel Messi has scored all of Argentina's goals so far in the 2026 World Cup. So far, the Inter Miami footballer has scored five goals. Although it may seem simple, Zlatan Ibrahimovic remembered his participation in the 2002 Korea-Japan and 2006 World Cups in Germany. Zlatan retired blank.
"Messi, until now, is in the World Cup and has not yet played against Jordan, so I don't know where he will end up. He has five goals in two games and I have zero goals in two World Cups, to get a sense of what it means," he said.
The Argentina team still has one match left in the first round of the 2026 World Cup. The duel against Jordan is a good opportunity for Messi to continue expanding his scoring record in World Cups (18 goals). However, it is also a good time for Lionel Scaloni to make rotations to rest his squad for the next round.
"I'm happy, I'm happy for him and I hope it continues. His birthday is in a few days, so let him enjoy it because we're all enjoying it by watching him play. It's incredible, simply incredible. I'm speechless," he concluded.
