Top Rank promoter Bob Arum predicted that Terence Crawford will defeat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez by lopsided unanimous decision on September 13 when they contest the undisputed 168-pound championship in Las Vegas.
In an interview with The Ring magazine, Arum noted that Canelo Alvarez isn't the same man he was a few years ago and believes Crawford will use his skills to defeat him because he's a more complete fighter.
“I think Crawford will win by lopsided decision. It'll be a knockout or a lopsided decision, but it'll most likely be a lopsided decision because Canelo is going to lock himself in. People don't realize how far Canelo has come. It wasn't just the last fight (with William Scull), but the fights before that,” he said.
“Crawford has He's been fighting better fighters and has the tools to beat Canelo. Crawford's one big advantage, which these fighters don't know how to handle, is that he's completely ambidextrous. So they'll have Canelo training with right-handed partners to prepare for the fight. And Crawford could start out fighting right-handed, but end up fighting him southpaw, and Canelo won't know how to handle that, he added.
According to some experts' predictions, Terence Crawford will be at a weight disadvantage and won't be able to defeat the Mexican, but others believe that size won't be an issue, as the American has the necessary skills to beat the 168-pound champion on his own turf.
After the fight with Cuban William Scull, where the Mexican fighter was criticized for his lackluster performance, many experts in the sport have changed their minds and see Bud with real chances of winning because they think the Guadalajara native is in decline.
If the American wins would become a three-time undisputed champion in different weight classes and make history in the sport, while Canelo Alvarez could end Crawford's undefeated streak and send him into retirement.
Terence Crawford, 38,He became a four-division champion by defeating Israel Madrimov and remains one of the best pound-for-pound fighters. The two-time undisputed American champion now has 41 wins, 31 of them by knockout.
Meanwhile, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, became the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time after defeating William Scull and now has a career record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses, and two draws.
