Marlene Favela remembers the day she suffered a stroke without knowing it
The Mexican actress revealed that a few years ago she suffered a stroke that she mistook for an allergy. We tell you the details
Actress Marlene Favela shocked her fans by sharing a distressing testimony regarding the health problem she experienced a few years ago and that kept her on the brink of death.
In her most recent appearance on the program "Netas Divinas," the star of melodramas such as "Gata Salvaje" and "Contra viento y marea" revealed that confusing the symptoms A stroke with an allergy could have cost her life, resulting in emergency surgery that took her to the intensive care unit.
According to Marlene Favela, the terrifying episode took place in 2012, just after arriving in Miami after a flight. The first symptom was a strange pressure on her forehead, which she attributed to the air conditioning allergy she has suffered from for some time.
“Since I am allergic to air conditioning, I said 'I'm allergic to everything.' I ran for an hour, got off the treadmill, went to bed and that's when my legs and hands started tingling,” she told the show's cast of hosts.
This second symptom set off alarm bells among her and her family, so she went to a hospital where the medical team informed her that she had bleeding in her brain caused by an artery putting pressure on a vein.
As a result, she had to undergo surgery in which they performed an embolization procedure through the main artery to stop the bleeding: “They enter through the main artery to the brain, embolize the vein that was bleeding and say: 'you have to keep it under observation for four days to see if the body absorbs it'”, she added.
The nightmare didn't end there, as the bleeding persisted and she was admitted to intensive care for three weeks. The next step was undergoing another surgery, this time on an open brain, which she now considers a wake-up call and has since had a different perspective on life.
"Yes, I am somewhat balanced; I am very stable in life. But when something gets out of control, I get scared.I became more aware of everything that living entails (…) I had been working and working for as long as I can remember, never once thinking about what I was missing out on, because I wanted to absorb everything. When that came, I said: 'Wow!'" he concluded.
