The FBI investigates an attempt to supplant the identity of Susie Wiles, chief of staff of the White House
For the second time in less than a year,
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating an operation aimed at impersonating Susan Summerall Wiles, chief of staff of the White House, in order to obtain information from the government.
The strange thing about the situation is that the communication with Wiles's impersonator was established through a phone other than hers.
Given the sensitivity of the issue, the 68-year-old Republican alerted most of her contacts about the situation to avoid them being scammed or providing information related to the government.
Immediately after, she requested the intervention of the FBI to investigate who could be behind the hack.
As they began to investigate, at least two difficult-to-assimilate points soon came to light.
In this sense, FBI cybersecurity experts believe that artificial intelligence may have been used during the calls.
Furthermore, it is indicated that the number registered on the phones of the people contacted by the alleged hacker is the same one that Trump's chief of staff uses.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Kashyap Patel, director of the FBI, pledged to continue investigating to find the person responsible.
“The FBI takes all threats against the President, his staff, and our cybersecurity very seriously.
Protecting the ability of our administration officials to communicate securely and accomplish the President’s mission is a top priority,” he stressed.
It should be noted that, during the New York magnate’s presidential campaign, a group of Iranians managed to access Wiles’ email account and obtained information about the current Vice President James David Vance.
