The war between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza continues to claim victims in Sinaloa, and this time 20 bodies were found on a road leading to Culiacan
Despite the fact that around 10,000 military and National Guard elements are deployed in Sinaloa, the violence does not stop in that state and deaths linked to crime are frequently reported organized.
One of the most recent cases is the discovery of 20 bodies on the Mexico 15 international highway. According to media outlets such as the newspaper La Jornada, four of the victims were decapitated and hung by their feet from a bridge; The rest were inside a van, and one of them was also headless.
The road where the discovery was made connects with Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa and epicenter of the disputes between “Los Chapitos” and “La Mayiza”, both factions of the Sinaloa Cartel.
In the van where the bodies were found, authorities found messages on a tarp tied to the unit, which had a refrigerated box and had the rear doors open.
According to what was written, those responsible for this incident would have been members of the faction controlled by Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias “Mayito Flaco” and son of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
Since these two armed groups declared war on each other, bodies appear scattered throughout Culiacan daily, houses are riddled with bullets, businesses and schools frequently close their doors during the waves of violence, and masked youths on motorcycles patrol the city's main avenues.
Feliciano Castro, spokesperson for the Sinaloa government, condemned the murders and indicated that authorities needed to examine their strategy to confront organized crime in light of the magnitude of the violence observed.
According to official figures, the dispute between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza that began on September 9, 2024, has left more than 1,400 dead, 534 people deprived of their liberty without being located to date, 4,000 stolen vehicles, 1,154 assaults on businesses and the economic collapse in the region.
