Trump reports six detainees for damage to the Washington Reflecting Pond
The president assured that the deterioration of the pool was a deliberate act, while authorities continue the investigation
President Donald Trump assured this Tuesday that six people had been arrested and seven others had been summoned to court for the damage caused, according to the president, to the Washington Reflecting Pond on the National Mall in Washington.
“Six people have been arrested and seven have been cited for the damage caused to our country's now beautiful Reflecting Pool,” the president wrote on his Truth Social network.
Trump explained that “the 350-foot cut, made with a very sharp knife or razor blades, actually consists of numerous slashes along that extensive distance” and concluded that “it was a deliberate and criminal act,” although the judicial processes to determine what happened are still under investigation and not sentenced.
"Someone had to work very hard—probably under the cover of the darkness of night—to cause such destruction. Likewise, a small section of the bottom of the pool was cut off and forcefully torn from the surface, leaving very irregular and jagged edges," the president insisted.
Investigation into damage to a construction site on the way to the US anniversary
The renovation of the Reflecting Pond, located at the foot of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, was undertaken this spring and within days of filling it in June, the water turned a deep green tone due to an algae outbreak.
This is one of the works that Trump wants to have ready in Washington for the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States, which will be commemorated next July 4.
"The large areas of grass are being replaced. In any case, even before repairing those areas, the Reflecting Pool looks splendid. We will empty some of the water - either just before or after the Fourth of July - to carry out the final repair," the president explained in his message on Tuesday.
