USA doubles reward to $50 million for Nicolas Maduro; Linked to Sinaloa Cartel
The president of Venezuela allegedly leads the Cartel of the Suns and would have helped the Sinaloa Cartel traffic drugs to the United States
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that U.S. authorities are now offering $50 million for information leading to the arrest of Nicolas Maduro.
The U.S. Departments of State and Justice link the Venezuelan president to terrorist organizations such as the FARC, the Sinaloa Cartel, and the Cartel of the Suns, used to smuggle drugs into the country.
The Department of Justice has seized more than $700 million in assets linked to Maduro, including two private jets, nine vehicles, and more. However, Maduro's reign of terror continues, said Pam Bondi.
Prior to this announcement, the State Department had previously offered a $25 million reward for information related to Maduro.
Days earlier, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned the Cartel of the Suns, allegedly led by Nicolas Maduro Moros and other senior Venezuelan officials of the regime, also accusing it of providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations that threaten the peace and security of the United States, particularly the Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel.
According to the report, the Cartel of the Suns supports the The Aragua Train is working to use the flow of illegal narcotics as a weapon against the United States. In addition, he has provided support to the Sinaloa Cartel.
The Trump administration has even insisted that Maduro is the leader of the Cartel de los Soles, an organization with ties specifically to "Los Chapitos," a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico.
It is believed that the relationship with the criminal organization to which the US government linked Nicolas Maduro and the Mexican cartel began in the 1990s thanks to negotiations made by representatives of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera.
This is without forgetting that the United States has argued that Maduro's electoral victory last year was illegitimate and has an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Maduro, president since 2013, was declared the winner of the country's July 2024 elections by both Venezuela's electoral authority and the highest court, although detailed counts confirming his victory have never been published.
