Americans worried about medical expenses, reveals KFF survey
Many American families say that due to tight budgets, it is difficult for them to afford medical care or insurance
According to a new survey developed by the health policy research firm KFF, Americans are currently showing high concern about medical expenses.
According to the analysis, medical care in recent years has become one of the main financial concerns for Americans, amid high prices for medications, food, and other essential goods and services.
More Half of the Americans surveyed say that current healthcare is difficult to afford, after Congress failed last year to extend subsidies through the Affordable Care Act, inevitably leading to premium increases for millions of beneficiaries. Shannon Schumacher, senior survey analyst at KFF, said, “KFF has long observed that healthcare costs are a top concern for people regarding household expenses and financial needs.” According to the survey, these concerns stem from rising healthcare costs, including health insurance payments and prescription drug costs. “Now we’re seeing its importance increase. It has become a priority given the widespread increase in costs and people’s search for affordable solutions,” Schumacher commented. And the root of these concerns is related to a lack of income in many cases. Since the survey results indicate that 76% of Americans with adjusted incomes do not have sufficient funds to cover these expenses. On the other hand, KFF presented figures for other costs related to the financial concerns of many Americans. These include: rent at 23%, utilities at 22%, gas and transportation at 17%, and food at 24%. Finally, given the economic pressure felt by many Americans,Some plan to forgo healthcare services or health insurance because they believe current health plans are beyond their budgets and too expensive without subsidies.
