AOC blames Trump for turning Washington's Reflecting Pond into a swamp
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez considera a Donald Trump responsable de haber empeorado la situación del Estanque Reflectante del Monumento a Lincoln
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), congresswoman from New York, blamed President Donald Trump for turning the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool into a real swamp where he spent millions of dollars.
After carrying out a restoration of the site, which involved an investment of $14.8 million dollars, the 2,030-foot-long by 167-foot-wide area where approximately 4.5 million gallons of water are concentrated, the layer of paint applied to the bottom began to peel off, giving way to the accelerated emergence of algae.
Although the New York magnate's opponents initially intended to hold the company hired by the government responsible for the inadequate restoration, over the weekend local authorities arrested a group of people who are accused of allegedly having hatched a plan to contaminate the Reflecting Pond by throwing highly corrosive chemicals into it.
"These are very serious crimes related to the destruction of national monuments. Years in prison!" wrote President Donald Trump on the Truth Social platform on Saturday morning.
However, from AOC's point of view, the real reason behind the unfortunate restoration failure ordered by the nation's president lies in poor work carried out by the personnel in charge and due to the lack of knowledge of the person in charge of validating it.
"They said they had to repaint the pool, and now they have turned the place into a swamp. They have turned it into a real swamp," the Democrat said in a video posted on social media.
The Democrat ironically also tried to relate the Trump administration's cuts to what happened at the water tank that makes the Lincoln Memorial look better.
“When funding for scientific research is cut, when nothing is really understood about science…” he expressed.
Derived from the appearance of algae and the greenish color that began to prevail in the pond water, some birds were found dead, a situation that corroborates the toxicity of the liquid.
