Buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump” is saved from slaughter and is now the new attraction in Bangladesh
The bovine, which had become a viral sensation on the internet, was rescued from being slaughtered during the religious festivals of Eid al-Adha
An albino buffalo with a peculiar appearance, nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its unusual lock of golden hair similar to the American president's characteristic hairstyle, managed to escape ritual sacrifice during the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha and was transferred to the national zoo of Bangladesh, where it has already become a sensation among visitors.
The animal, weighing approximately 700 kilograms, went viral on social networks in recent weeks thanks to photographs and videos that showed its light fur and its distinctive, carefully combed mane. The buffalo's popularity grew rapidly on the Internet and attracted hundreds of curious onlookers to the farm where he lived, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Bangladeshi authorities intervened shortly before the animal was slaughtered as part of celebrations for Eid al-Adha, one of the most important religious holidays for Muslims, in which millions of animals are traditionally sacrificed.
The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the government ordered the protection of the buffalo due to enormous public interest and safety concerns, after crowds began gathering to view and photograph it.
The government ordered to save the animal
According to local media reports and Bangladeshi authorities, the Minister of the Interior, Salahuddin Ahmed, authorized that the animal's life be spared and that the buyer receive a financial refund, in addition to another animal for sacrifice, with the aim of avoiding financial losses.
The buffalo was later transferred to the Mirpur National Zoo in Dhaka, where it will remain under permanent veterinary supervision.
The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Livestock of Bangladesh, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, explained that the animal has an extremely rare genetic condition related to the lack of melanin, the pigment responsible for the color of the skin and coat.
According to authorities, albino buffaloes are rare and could represent important value for research and biodiversity conservation.
“These animals are extremely rare in the world,” the official said in a publication posted on official social networks. He also reported that the zoo prepared a special space for the buffalo and that specialists will be monitoring its health 24 hours a day.
“Trump buffalo” becomes a local celebrity
Since its arrival at the national zoo, long lines of visitors have come to meet the animal, which is already considered one of the main attractions of the place.
“I came to the zoo just to see Donald Trump,” commented a visiting child quoted by the local press.
The buffalo had been raised at Rabeya Agro Farm, near the Bangladeshi capital. His owners stated that they decided to call him “Donald Trump” due to the peculiar shape of his golden locks and the similarity that many Internet users found with the style of the American president.
Before its transfer, the owners even organized a special farewell for the animal, with a red carpet and colored smoke effects, images that were also widely circulated on digital platforms.
The authorities placed a sign in the zoo identifying it as “White Buffalo (Donald Trump)”, while visitors continue to arrive interested in meeting the now famous bovine.
The case reminded many users of another viral episode that occurred a decade ago in China, when a golden pheasant named “Little Red” gained international fame for the resemblance of its yellow feathers to Trump's hairstyle.
Now, the albino buffalo of Bangladesh seems to follow the same path: going from being an animal destined for sacrifice to becoming an internet celebrity.
