California police departments may soon begin issuing traffic violations to autonomous vehicles and require manufacturers to remove them from roads during emergencies.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles(DMV) reported in a statement that new rules have been adopted advance autonomous vehicles, such as Waymo taxis, with the application of SB 53 law, which expanded oversight of this technology.
The regulations take effect in California beginning July 1,2026.
