Immigration lawyer leaves Minnesota after telling a judge that her job sucks
Julie Le was removed from her position at the DOJ after making strong statements during a hearing related to immigration cases in Minnesota
“This job sucks,” said Trump administration lawyer Julie Le, referring to her work during a court hearing stemming from the increase in immigration measures in the state of Minnesota.
CNN reported that, during At a hearing Tuesday in St. Paul, Minnesota, regarding several immigration cases, Le told Judge Jerry Blackwell that she even wished she could be held in contempt so she could at least “get a full 24 hours of sleep.”
Tension in court over immigration cases
According to a CNN source speaking on condition of anonymity, following her statements, the U.S. Attorney in Minnesota terminated Le's assignment to that Justice Department unit and sent her back to her position at ICE.
During the hearing, the lawyer explained that the administration is facing difficulties in complying promptly with court orders in immigration cases. She noted that there are not enough lawyers to handle the workload related to Operation Metro Surge and compared trying to correct mistakes to “pulling out your teeth.”
“They are overwhelmed and need help,” she said, adding that she volunteered to assist. He also acknowledged flaws in the current procedures and assured that he is trying to resolve them.
Judge questions compliance with court orders
Judge Blackwell heard the arguments, but pointed out that part of the problem lies in the government's failure to comply with court orders.
“I hear the concerns about the Justice Department's workload, but part of this is your responsibility for not complying with the orders,” the judge stated.
He responded that he does not have sufficient authority to change a system he considers broken and that he lacks the tools to do so.
Department of Homeland Security response
Under Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin,The agency confirmed in a statement that Le was a probationary attorney and criticized her conduct. “This behavior is unprofessional and unbecoming of an ICE attorney, as it abandons her obligation to act with commitment and dedication in defense of the interests of the United States government,” it stated. The case has garnered attention amid the intense debate over U.S. immigration policy and the pressure on the judicial system and federal legal teams.
