Israel will reopen the border crossing with Jordan for aid to Gaza

Israel announced it will reopen the Allenby border crossing, which it controls between Jordan and the occupied West Bank, to allow trucks carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, after closing it in September.
“Starting tomorrow (Wednesday), the movement of goods and aid will be authorized. from Jordan to the Judea and Samaria region and the Gaza Strip through the Allenby crossing,” an Israeli official said in a statement, using the biblical term Israel employs to refer to the West Bank.
Closed after an attack
Israeli authorities closed the Allenby crossing to humanitarian aid trucks in late September after an attack by a Jordanian aid truck driver that killed two Israeli soldiers at the border post.
It is the main route for transporting international aid from Jordan to the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Trucks will travel under escort and protection
“In recent weeks, the necessary security adjustments were completed at the Allenby border crossing, on both the Israeli and Jordanian sides,” the Israeli official said.
“All aid trucks destined for the "Those traveling in the Gaza Strip will circulate under escort and protection, following a thorough security inspection," he added. The announcement comes as diplomatic negotiations are underway with the intention of moving to the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas, in effect since October 10.
