JetBlue plane emergency landing in Florida leaves several passengers injured
The plane bound for Newark had to be diverted to Tampa after a problem arose mid-flight on Thursday
Several passengers experienced moments of panic, and many were injured on a JetBlue flight from Mexico to New Jersey after the plane suffered a technical problem, the airline reported.
According to official information, JetBlue flight 1230, an Airbus 320, departed from Cancun International Airport in Mexico and was headed to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey when its crew reported a problem with flight control After experiencing a loss of altitude, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The pilots informed air traffic controllers that at least three passengers were injured with possible lacerations.
The weather in the area was calm, and the pilots informed air traffic control that the injuries resulted from a problem with flight control.
The aircraft was taken out of service for inspection, and the airline said it will conduct a full investigation to determine the cause.
“The safety of our customers and crew members is always our first priority, and we will work to support those involved,” JetBlue said.
The incident comes just a week after another JetBlue plane turned around mid-flight after a “disruptive” passenger was allegedly hurling verbal abuse.
Video of the flight, which was headed to Las Vegas from Boston on October 20, shows two Massachusetts state troopers escorting a male passenger, carrying a backpack and suitcase, off the plane. The troopers said they were notified at 10 p.m. that JetBlue Flight 777 was returning to the gate due to the disruptive passenger, although some witnesses suggest it was a misunderstanding.
