Newsom issues a warning to Trump and says he will sue him if he sends troops to San Francisco
Trump said his administration would send National Guard troops to San Francisco and that he may invoke the Insurrection Act to do so
In response Regarding plans to deploy the US military to the city, Newson warned that if Trump makes good on his threat to send National Guard troops to San Francisco, he will sue the Republican administration.
Newson said he does not intend to “ignore the abuse of power” and that the idea of ??????deploying federal forces “without oversight or accountability” is a direct attack on the rule of law, according to a statement shared by his office.
The governor, known for his staunch opposition to the head of state, added that Trump “is wrong” if he expects to be able to act without finding a defense for the Constitution.
For his part, California Attorney General Rob Bonta added that there is no “legal justification” to validate the presence of the National Guard in the Californian city. “There is no invasion, there is no riot, there is no rebellion,” he wrote.
According to critics, Trump has repeatedly exaggerated the extent of crime in American cities to justify his deployments, unleashing a wave of lawsuits and legal challenges to invalidate his speech.
Since last September, Trump has deployed hundreds of federal agents in the city of Chicago, with the objective of detaining undocumented migrants, an operation that has left more than 1,500 detainees to date, with the justification of an alleged high crime rate that, in the opinion of the president, is not controlled by the Democratic authorities of the city and the state of Illinois.
Curiously, the first deployment ordered by Trump was in a Californian city, Los Angeles, after protests over widespread immigration raids last June, which unleashed the ire of Gavin Newsom, who escalated the situation to the courts, where the Republican came out unscathed.
