They reveal who is the suspect in the shooting during the White House Correspondents' Dinner
Authorities have identified the suspect who fired a gun during the White House Correspondents' Dinner
At the start of a thorough investigation by authorities, a source cited by CNN revealed that the suspect's name is Cole Tomas Allen, he is 31 years old, and a resident of Torrance, a suburb of Los Angeles, California.
According to Jeffery Carroll, acting police chief of Washington, DC, the man in question was carrying several weapons when he "attacked" a Secret Service checkpoint.
"He was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives. As he ran through the checkpoint, he was intercepted by agents of the United States Secret Service," he stated in a briefing with members of the press.
The official also mentioned that one of the reasons the man in question had the opportunity to smuggle firearms undetected was that he may have been staying at the Washington Hilton, the venue for the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
"We believe he was a guest at this hotel. We have secured a room in the hotel and, as always, we will follow the appropriate procedures to determine what was inside."
Regarding this, Jeanine Pirro, US Attorney for the District of Columbia, noted that the suspect remains in custody and will face two charges: use of a firearm during a violent crime and assault on a federal agent with a dangerous weapon.
“Based on what we know so far, it is clear that this individual intended to cause as much harm as possible.
Fortunately, thanks to the checkpoint located just outside the ballroom where thousands of people were gathered to hear the president, “No one was injured when it became clear where this defendant was headed,” he Initially, reports indicated that the suspect had been killed by the Secret Service, but Jeffery W. Carroll, acting chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, clarified that, although he was being treated at a hospital, he had no gunshot wounds. Thus, it is expected that the Californian will appear before a judge on Monday to determine his legal status.
