Francesca Hong, Democratic representative and candidate for governor of Wisconsin, insists on promoting the cancellation of Thanksgiving Day
Since 2021, the professional chef has maintained her position that, in the United States, the fourth Thursday of the month of November should stop being celebrated as it has been officially done since 1789, since that represents an apology for colonialism.
"Cancel Thanksgiving. We should have done it in 1621. If it takes a global pandemic for us to realize that we must stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed indigenous people and women, so be it," he wrote five years ago on platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
During her appearance on the program “The Source”, which is broadcast by the CNN television network, the 37-year-old Democrat was asked if she was still in favor of ending such an important date for Americans and without hesitation she endorsed her position on the matter.
"This is an incredibly painful time for many people in our communities. That's why I wanted to make sure people understood that there are multiple points of view, but they can evolve," she said.
Regarding her intention to be campaigning to compete for the Democratic candidacy for governor of Wisconsin, Francesca Hong pointed out that having been in charge of a restaurant allowed her to be part of many conversations with Americans of all types and with varied needs, which is an advantage, since she already knows many of the needs that prevail in her home state.
“I have always thought that my experience in the hospitality sector and having owned a restaurant for seven or eight years, bringing people together around the table to share conversations and build community, is always a good thing… I think that my experience as a chef will help me be a better governor, capable of bringing more people together around the table,” she stressed.
During the Democratic primaries to be held on August 11, Hong will test his ability to connect with citizens and through it try to prevail over his party colleagues Kelda Roys, Joel Brennan and David Crowley.
