Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das said, people have four months time. Feel free to go to the bank and exchange notes. There is no need to panic. Banks have enough money. Das said, there is no possibility of crowding in the branches of banks. There is no need to rush to exchange notes. He also urged the people not to crowd. Das clarified, no institution including businessmen can refuse to accept Rs 2,000 note.

RBI Governor Das said, the deadline for changing notes has been fixed on September 30, so that it can be taken seriously. Otherwise the process of depositing or converting would go on continuously. Das said, no one can give an answer on what will happen after September 30. Most of the notes are expected to come back during this time. Further decision will be taken only on 30th September.
Purpose of Rs 2000 note fulfilled: Das said, the purpose of bringing Rs 2000 note has been fulfilled. Then it was brought to meet the shortage of currency. When there was sufficient amount in the system, then their printing was stopped from 2018-19.
There was withdrawal earlier also: Under the clean note policy, RBI keeps withdrawing the notes. In 2013-14 also, the notes printed before 2005 were withdrawn.
Arrangement for shade and water... RBI has instructed the banks to make full arrangements for shade and water for the consumers coming to exchange notes in view of the heat. Also, keep a daily account of the notes.
Will black money enter the system again?
Das said, there is a fixed procedure for depositing money in the account or exchanging cash. We have not come up with an additional process. For cash deposits above Rs 50,000, PAN will have to be shown as before. Regarding the issue of Rs 1000 note, Das said that it is just speculation. At present there is no such proposal.

SBI has said that notes up to Rs 20,000 can be exchanged without ID proof. Earlier it was being claimed that in order to exchange Rs 2000 notes, along with showing ID proof, Aadhaar card, a form would also have to be filled.
