Exclusive: Tesla presents a Model 3 with 830 km of range
Tesla presented a special version of the Model 3 in China with 830 km of autonomy, the longest in the brand’s history. Its performance and battery mark a milestone
Tesla announced a new variant of the Model 3 designed exclusively for China. This model not only offers the longest range ever recorded by the company, but also incorporates a series of improvements in battery and traction that place it at the top of the industry. However, those outside of China will have to settle for admiring it from afar.

The strategy responds to the importance of the Chinese market for Elon Musk's firm, where competition with local electric vehicle manufacturers is increasingly fierce.

In recent years, emerging brands have managed to surpass Tesla in sales, forcing the company to react with more attractive proposals for the Asian public.
830 km of autonomy under Chinese homologation
The new Model 3 with all-wheel drive and a high-capacity battery achieves a homologated range of 830 kilometers, surpassing all other records for the brand. This figure, however, corresponds to the CLTC protocol, the Chinese measurement standard, which is more flexible than the WLTP system used in Europe and other markets.
This advance is supported by an NCM ternary battery manufactured by LG Energy Solution with a capacity of 78.4 kWh. Thanks to it, the sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 km/h.
A launch with no international release
Tesla has made it clear that this model will be exclusive to China, leaving aside the possibility of exporting it to other markets. In Europe, for example, the Model 3 with the longest range officially offers up to 702 kilometers, well below this new record figure.
Orders in China are already open and the first deliveries are scheduled for September, according to the brand's official website. The news has sparked great interest in the Asian country, where consumers increasingly value autonomy as a decisive purchasing factor.
Price and commercial objectives
The starting price of this long-range version has been set at 269,500 yuan, or approximately $35,500 at the current exchange rate. With this proposal, Tesla seeks to regain ground in the world's largest electric vehicle market, where its recent figures have not been so encouraging.
Between January and July of this year, the Model 3 reached 101,770 units sold in China, representing a growth of 26.54% compared to the same period last year.
However, in general terms, Tesla has suffered a 6.32% drop in sales in the country, largely dragged down by the decline in demand for the Model Y.
This launch confirms that Tesla is willing to strengthen its presence in China with products designed specifically for this market. The challenge lies in competing with local manufacturers that have gained popularity thanks to more competitive prices and innovative technologies.
While the 830 km Model 3 will not leave China's borders, its development shows the potential that Tesla could bring to other markets if it decides to adapt it to international protocols and regulations.
