Frozen cheese bread sold at Costco recalled due to possible salmonella contamination
The recalled product belongs to the Motor City Pizza Co. brand of manufacturer Champion Foods LLC
This week, supermarket chain Costco announced to its customers a recall of Motor City Pizza Co.'s five-cheese bread due to a high risk of salmonella contamination.
The retail chain also informed members who purchased the product between February 6 and May 29 of the recall, recommending consumers not to eat the food, throw it away, or return it to the store for a refund.
The product withdrawn from the market comes from the manufacturer Champion Foods LLC, which notified that one of its external suppliers warned about possible salmonella contamination in the milk powder, the main ingredient for the preparation of the breads.
Although the company stated that the contaminated ingredient was tested and tested negative for salmonella contamination, Champion Foods decided to recall the cheese breads out of an abundance of caution, primarily seeking to ensure consumer safety.
The recalled products in the single version are those with UPC code 8 70375 00511 1 with expiration dates of February 4, 2027 to April 21, 2027, and those in the two-unit version have UPC code 8 70375 00509 8 with an expiration date between February 3, 2027 to March 25, 2027.
So far, no people have been reported poisoned by the consumption of this food; However, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns against the consumption of products contaminated with salmonella, which can cause serious infections in children, pregnant women, older adults or people with a weakened immune system.
