For the first time in the country's steel sector, a batch of trainee women firefighters was inducted by Tata Steel on Thursday. This is the first such step taken in the steel sector of the country. The batch of 23 female trainees will be taught basic fire fighting and rescue operations, the company said in a statement. A company official said that firewomen are appointed in government-owned ONGC.

The training will provide women with theoretical understanding as well as practical experience, the statement said. After this, the candidates will be evaluated and the selected ones will be included in the Fire and Rescue Services team of Tata Steel.

An event 'Flames of Change' was organized to induct future female firefighters. Selected women will be given training for three months. Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, who was the chief guest of the event, said, “Tata Steel has been a pioneer in taking such initiatives and creating opportunities for women across various sectors in the organization.

These women, who are part of Tata Steel's Fire and Rescue Services team, will create history in the field of fire fighting and inspire everyone across the country. "Tata Steel aims to achieve 25 per cent of its workforce belonging to diverse groups by 2025," the company said.
