Monsoon Session: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while representing the government in the Rajya Sabha on the issue of inflation, said on Tuesday that no one is denying that prices have increased. He said that we are not running. There is a band of our inflation rate. Inflation is at 7 percent. The Finance Minister said that the government and the RBI are trying to keep it below 7 percent.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while speaking in the Rajya Sabha, further said that the government is working with a targeted approach, based on ground information, to tackle inflation. He said that the Indian economy is in a better position than other emerging and some developed economies. Referring to the foreign loans being sought by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nirmala Sitharaman said that the foundation of our economy is strong.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the proposal to levy 5 percent GST on packaged and packaged food items was agreed by all the states in the GST Council and no one opposed it. He said that this is not the first time that tax is being imposed on food items in the country. Before GST, 22 states had VAT on these items. He said that it is very easy to say that this has never happened before.
