Disney could cost $235 a month, analysis shows
A portal calculated that Disney Premium could cost $235 a month within a few years, if it maintains the rate of increases recorded in recent times
Streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Disney , among others, have become a fixed expense and, for some, necessary within their home. The price increases in recent years have not decreased consumption, much less reduced the profits of these companies. An internet site analyzed the pace of growth of one of the most popular entertainment options and estimated that the monthly subscription would exceed $200 per month in the next decade.
The service the study refers to is Disney Premium, the ad-free version of The Walt Disney Company's platform. According to an analysis by the research firm Predictionist, the subscription could cost $235 per month in 2036 if its price continues to increase at the same average rate recorded between 2020 and 2026.
It is important to clarify that this figure does not correspond to an official announcement from Disney or a plan confirmed by the company, it is a projection based on the evolution of the price of the service since its launch.
When Disney debuted in the United States at the end of 2019, its monthly rate was $6.99. Over the following years, the price gradually increased:
According to Predictionist calculations, this represents an average annual increase of 28.6% between 2020 and 2026. If this trend continues over the next ten years, the subscription price could rise to $235 per month.
"This projection is conditional, not a forecast of Disney's plans. But it demonstrates why families should review their subscriptions at least once a year and cancel anything they do not actively use," said a Predictionist spokesperson.
Should you cut your streaming platforms?
This calculation comes at a time when many households are reviewing their monthly expenses due to the rising cost of living. Although a streaming platform may seem like a small expense on its own, the problem arises when several services accumulate and all increase their rates over time.
Data from Next Gen Personal Finance shows that the average American pays about $220 a month for about 8.2 active subscriptions. However, many people believe that their monthly expense is only $86, which reflects that there is not always precise control over these recurring payments.
"It's easy to ignore streaming bills because they arrive monthly and, on their own, seem small. The danger is that households often only notice the price increase when several services have gone up at the same time," the Predictionist spokesperson explained.
Experts recommend doing a periodic review in which you clearly perceive the active subscriptions, which ones you actually use each week and which ones remain unused for months to determine which one to cut. You could also temporarily cancel a service or switch between different platforms to reduce expenses while still enjoying the content that interests you most.
