More than a new member of the ID. family, the Unyx 09 represents the company's strategy to accelerate the development of vehicles adapted to the Chinese market, where competition between electric car manufacturers is increasingly intense.
An SUV that bets on space
The dimensions of the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 is among the largest electric models developed by the brand. With a length of 5,081 millimeters and a wheelbase of 3,030 millimeters, it even surpasses the Volkswagen ID.7, considered until now one of the company's electrical references.
This growth not only seeks to offer a more imposing presence, but also a larger and more comfortable cabin for passengers, a feature highly valued by Chinese buyers.
The technical similarities with the ID. Unyx 08 also show that both vehicles share a good part of their development, the result of collaboration between Volkswagen and Xpeng.
Up to 496 horsepower
The range will start with a version equipped with a single electric motor located on the rear axle. This configuration develops 308 horsepower, a figure that places it above several electric SUVs in its category.
The most powerful variant incorporates a second motor on the front axle that delivers an additional 188 horsepower. Thanks to this all-wheel drive system, the combined power reaches 496 horsepower, which allows it to compete with premium models from both European and Chinese manufacturers.
Both configurations will have a top speed limited to 200 kilometers per hour and will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL. Although Volkswagen has not yet confirmed its capacity, everything indicates that 82 kWh and 95 kWh options will be available, similar to those of the ID. Unyx 08.
A different image for the ID family.
Volkswagen also wanted to give the ID its own identity. Unyx 09. The front adopts a more aggressive appearance thanks to a divided lighting signature and a silhouette reminiscent of the shape of a shark's nose.
The design is complemented by a panoramic glass roof, darkened front pillars and 20 or 21-inch wheels, depending on the version chosen. At the rear, the slim headlights stand out visually united by an illuminated Volkswagen logo in red.
With a weight that varies between 2,207 and 2,307 kilograms, the ID. Unyx 09 is shaping up to be one of Volkswagen's most important launches in China. In addition to expanding the brand's electric vehicle offering, it will be one of the first tests to measure the scope of the technological alliance with Xpeng in one of the most competitive markets in the world.
