Elon Musk offers to pay the salaries of Transportation Security Administration employees
Billionaire Elon Musk proposes to pay the salaries of TSA employees out of his own pocket to avoid the chaos prevailing at airports
After funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) remained stalled in the Senate, causing the absence of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents at security checkpoints in US airports due to their inability to collect their salaries, billionaire Elon Musk offered to cover whatever amount of money is necessary to avoid the chaos caused by long lines of passengers at airport terminals across the country.
This Saturday, Senate Republicans blocked a Democratic attempt to pass a standalone bill to fund the TSA by a vote of 41 to 49.
Faced with this situation, the South African who served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) posted a message on the platform would like to offer to pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding blockade that is negatively impacting the lives of so many Americans at airports across the country,” he wrote.
However, it is unclear whether the visionary businessman's proposal is legal or how it could be implemented, as federal law generally prohibits government employees from receiving outside compensation related to their official duties.
Because negotiations over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) remain stalled in Congress, TSA personnel face the risk of not receiving their full second paycheck next week.
The controversial aspect of the case is that Democrats refuse to approve the funding without a guarantee that there will be radical changes in the operations of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
To begin with, They are demanding that ICE and CBP agents be prohibited from covering their faces during the arrests of undocumented immigrants and that they obtain a warrant before entering private property, instead of presenting administrative warrants as they usually do. It should be noted that, in a post on the Truth Social platform,President Donald Trump warned that he was prepared to send ICE agents to airports across the United States starting Monday to take over security. "If the Democrats won't allow fair and proper security at our airports and across the country, ICE will do the job much better than ever before! I look forward to ICE arriving on Monday, and I have already told them, 'GET READY!'" he wrote.
