Red Lobster announces the closure of one of its oldest locations due to financial problems
The establishment was opened in 1970 and is considered one of the restaurant's oldest establishments.
Recently, the famous restaurant chain specializing in coastal food, Red Lobster, announced the closure of one of its oldest locations amid strong financial problems.
According to the company's statement, the closing will take place on May 24 at the emblematic Florida location located at 2583 North Monroe St. in Tallahassee, which opened its doors for the first time in 1970, considered one of the restaurant's oldest locations.
Although the closure of the location in Tallahassee marks the “end of an era” for the place's diners, who enjoyed an establishment specially designed to make its customers feel at home with affordable prices for the whole family. The closure of this location did not escape the adjustments the company is making after declaring bankruptcy in 2024.
Although at first, the location managed to escape the wave of closures two years ago that affected some 130 establishments both in Florida and other states, the closure of this location was inevitable amid the financial problems faced by the company, which had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
However, Damola Adamolekun, executive director of the chain, highlighted that some store closures will also be part of a restoration. “There are many positive signs, but we inherited a very damaged brand, so there is still work to do to repair all that,” said the CEO.
To date, Red Lobster has about 460 locations in at least 44 states; However, in recent years the company had recorded a loss of approximately $76 million, this due in part to adjustments to its menu with the “unlimited shrimp” promotion that generated the restaurant a net loss of $11 million in 2023.
