Social Security: who will receive $2,000 on May 27
The last group of Social Security beneficiaries will receive their payment on May 27; some deposits will exceed $2,000 dollars
In a month that has been long for most Social Security beneficiaries, millions of retirees, people with disabilities and survivors will receive their deposit next Wednesday, May 27. Depending on their work history and claim age, some of these people could receive just over $2,000.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will send the corresponding payments that day to people born between the 21st and 31st of any month. This schedule applies to most people collecting retirement, disability, and survivor benefits.
If you receive the benefit using another person's work history, as is the case with some spouses or widows, the SSA uses the date of birth of the primary worker and not the beneficiary.
Currently, more than 71.1 million people receive monthly Social Security payments in the United States. Most get their money during one of the three Wednesdays of each month, depending on the date of birth registered with the federal agency.
The May payment schedule was organized as follows:
Among those who will receive money on May 27, retired workers stand out, since they are the group with the highest average deposits. According to official SSA figures, retirement benefits reach a monthly average of $2,026.41 dollars.
This means that many retirees who are part of this round of payments could receive more than $2,000. However, the final amount changes depending on factors such as years worked, salary reported during working life, and the age at which the person requested retirement.
On the other hand, those who receive disability benefits through Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) obtain a monthly average of $1,493.20. Meanwhile, survivor beneficiaries receive about $1,625.56 a month.
Not all beneficiaries had to wait until the end of May to collect. Some groups received their money since May 1 due to adjustments related to the federal calendar. These include people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997. Typically, this group collects on the 3rd of each month, regardless of date of birth. However, since May 3 fell on a Sunday, the SSA advanced the payment to Friday, May 1.
The same situation occurred with those who receive both Social Security and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. This support is intended for people with low income and limited resources. Due to the weekend, both deposits were also sent on Friday, May 1st.
The SSA reminds that payments can be received by direct deposit to bank accounts. Beneficiaries have the possibility of updating their financial information using the “my Social Security” digital tool. Another option available is the Direct Express card, a debit card designed for federal deposits. Paper checks have stopped being issued since last year, except for small exceptions.
