The models that could disappear from the Volkswagen Group
The Volkswagen Group reorganizes its business and several emblematic models, such as Jetta and Taycan, appear among those that could be discontinued
The Volkswagen Group's strategy for the coming years points to a much smaller vehicle offering. The company wants to concentrate its resources on the most profitable models and that decision is already fueling rumors about the future of some historical names of its different brands.

Information published by the German newspaper Bild assures that several vehicles would be at risk of disappearing when the life cycle of their current generations ends. Among them are the Volkswagen Jetta, the Taos and the Porsche Taycan, as well as other Audi, Skoda and Cupra models.

Although the manufacturer has not confirmed the list of vehicles that would cease production, it did announce a profound reorganization that will change the way it develops and markets its portfolio for the rest of the decade.
Volkswagen wants a much smaller range
The group's roadmap contemplates reducing the number of models available by up to 50% by 2030. Added to this is a cut of close to 75% in versions and equipment levels, a measure with which it seeks to reduce development and manufacturing costs.
The company also plans to lower its annual production capacity from about 10 million vehicles to about nine million before the end of the decade.
The idea is to simplify operations and prioritize those products that really bring greater profits, especially in a context marked by the growth of Chinese manufacturers and the transition towards electric mobility.
The future of the Volkswagen Jetta generates uncertainty
One of the names that attracts the most attention in the report is that of the Volkswagen Jetta. The sedan has been one of the brand's most representative products for decades, especially in North America, where it maintains a significant base of buyers.
According to Bild, the model would not have a new generation when the commercial cycle of the current one ends. Volkswagen has not confirmed this possibility, although the rumor coincides with the trend of a market in which SUVs continue to displace sedans in customer preferences.
The Volkswagen Taos also appears among the vehicles that could be left without a successor. If this decision is made, it would respond to the manufacturer's intention to prevent similar models from competing with each other and concentrate sales in a smaller portfolio.
Porsche, Audi and other brands would also review their offer
The reorganization would not be limited to Volkswagen. Porsche would also be evaluating important changes and one of the models indicated is the Taycan, the first electric vehicle developed by the brand. The report maintains that there would be no plans for a second generation due to the commercial behavior recorded in recent years.
The same report adds that the gasoline engine versions of the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman would not advance either, while their electric replacements would continue with the planned development.
Audi would also review its catalog and among the models mentioned are the Q5 Sportback and Q6 e-tron Sportback. In Skoda and Cupra, the names that come up are the Fabia and the Raval.
For now, none of these possible departures have been officially confirmed by the Volkswagen Group. However, the rumors come just after the company announced a strategy focused on reducing costs, simplifying its range and concentrating its investments on vehicles with the greatest commercial potential.
