The inflation report in the United States and reports indicating renewed tensions in the Middle East have caused the price of the dollar in Mexico to start this Tuesday, July 14, with a slight decrease against the peso. Although the US currency loses ground at the beginning of the day, the exchange rate may vary throughout the day, depending on how international factors change in the coming hours.

At the opening of the day, the US dollar was quoted at $17.41 Mexican pesos, a decrease of 0.65% compared to the previous close of $17.53 pesos, according to Dow Jones data. On average, the price of the dollar in Mexico stands at $17.50 pesos per greenback this Tuesday.

During the day on Monday, the Mexican peso registered a decline of 0.32% against the dollar, pressured by the increase in tensions between the United States and Iran and by investors' expectations regarding the publication of US inflation data. Despite this, the US currency maintains a negative trend in broader periods, with a fall of 0.57% in the last week and an annual depreciation of 6.52%.

The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) reported that the official closing on Monday, July 13, was $17.5240 pesos per dollar, a figure calculated from the average of bank transactions carried out during the day. However, because the price of the dollar constantly fluctuates while the markets remain open, the exchange rate closed around $17.52 pesos per US currency.

The volatility of the exchange rate was 7.57%, just below the reference of 7.58%. This means that the exchange market continues to show slight movements and relatively stable behavior, although it remains sensitive to international economic and geopolitical events.

Likewise, Banxico reported that the FIX exchange rate published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) was established at $17.5023 pesos per dollar for this Tuesday. This exchange rate serves as a reference for various contracts, financial operations and official procedures, and is published at noon on the previous business day.

The FIX exchange rate is a value determined by Banxico based on the average of the quotes observed in the wholesale exchange market, where banks and financial institutions carry out currency purchase and sale operations.

Meanwhile, the exchange rate for the payment of obligations denominated in foreign currency was set at $17.4842 pesos per dollar. This value is used to settle obligations agreed in dollars within Mexico, in accordance with the provisions of current legislation.

Companies dedicated to sending international money present different quotes. This Tuesday, Western Union offers an exchange rate of $17.11 pesos per dollar, while MoneyGram places it at $17.93 pesos per greenback.

As complementary information, the resumption of war between the United States and Iran shook international markets, mainly affecting oil prices. A barrel of Brent is trading at $84.92 dollars and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is at $78.90 dollars.
