The Indian Navy has taken a historic step of inducting women in its elite special forces. For the first time, women have been allowed to serve as commandos in any part of the army. Officials informed about this development on Sunday. Although its official announcement is yet to be made.

Sources said that now after training, women can become Marine Commandos (Marcos) in the Navy if they meet the criteria. He said that this is a historic step in India's military history, but no one will be directly inducted into the Special Forces. Will have to work as a volunteer.

Another officer said that the option of becoming a volunteer Marcos would be open to both women officers and sailors who would join the service next year under Agniveer recruitment.

Marcos in the Navy are trained for multiple missions and can execute missions in sea, air and land. These commandos can carry out covert strikes against enemy warships, military bases, special diving operations and reconnaissance missions. MARCOS can also fight terrorists in the maritime domain, and have been deployed in the Wular Lake area of Kashmir in an anti-terrorist role.
