A Florida public high school teacher was arrested after a mixture of fentanyl and cocaine was found in his classroom.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident began when school administrators received complaints about alleged drug use. arcotic by Christopher D. Toukonen, 44 years old, while he was alone in the classroom of Lely Secondary School, with no students present.
The Sheriff's Office indicated that school staff searched Toukonen's backpack and discovered illegal narcotics. They subsequently contacted the Collier County Sheriff's Office to report the situation.
Agents from the Juvenile Relations Bureau and detectives from the Vice and Narcotics Bureau responded to the scene and, after interrogating Toukonen, detained him.
After his arrest, detectives executed a search warrant both in Toukonen's classroom and in his vehicle, located on the school grounds, where no narcotics were found.
Authorities noted that both narcotics are classified as controlled substances. Fentanyl, in particular, is a synthetic opioid that has been linked to multiple cases of overdoses in the United States.
Toukonen faces charges for possession of narcotics paraphernalia. “Thanks to the quick acting of school staff, our officers and detectives tives, this situation was resolved immediately”, stated sheriff Rambosk. “I congratulate all those involved for their handling of this case,” he added.
