A man faces a murder charge after police say they tracked down, stalked, and killed a registered sex offender in a premeditated attack using the state's public database.

The suspect, identified as Varun Suresh of Fremont, was arrested in the crime scene, which occurred on Thursday. The victim was David Brimmer, who was convicted in 1995 of lewd acts with a minor and released from prison in 2004.

The Fremont Police Department reported that officers responded to a 911 call around noon for a violent fight. Upon arrival, they found Brimmer on the ground with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers located Suresh nearby with a knife, according to the statement.

Court documents obtained by KTVU detail an elaborate strategy. Suresh allegedly told detectives that for years he had wanted to kill a sex offender because “they hurt kids” and that, in his opinion, “they deserve to die.”

To carry out his plan, Suresh accessed the California Megan’s Law website and found Brimmer’s information. He captured a profile picture of the account on his phone approximately 45 minutes before the attack, according to the investigation.

In order to appear legitimate, Suresh posed as a certified public accountant. He was carrying a purse, a notebook, and a coffee cup when he knocked on Brimmer's door. After Brimmer confirmed his identity, Suresh shook his hand and declared, "I knew I had the right man," before initiating the attack.

Brimmer managed to escape and ran approximately two blocks to a neighbor's house, who let him in. However, Suresh broke into the home and continued the attack, stabbing Brimmer in the neck.

The victim ran out of the house and collapsed in the front yard. Suresh pinned him to the ground and, according to police, slit his throat to "make sure it was done."Suresh allegedly asked Brimmer during the chase if he “believed in God” and told him he should “say his last words.” Suspect’s Background Following his arrest, Suresh admitted to specifically seeking out sex offenders as potential victims. He stated that he believed it was his “duty” to punish them and that the experience of killing Brimmer was “honestly a lot of fun,” according to the documents. He also expressed that he expected to be arrested but felt he “shouldn’t bother” because “everyone hates pedophiles.” Suresh has a criminal record. In 2021, he was arrested by Fremont police on charges of burglary, false bomb threat, and criminal threats, in an incident where he also claimed to be trying to attack a suspected pedophile.
