Former secretary of murdered mayor Carlos Manzo arrested for alleged links to crime
The arrest is related to the hypothesis that Manzo's former private secretary provided sensitive information about the mayor to members of the CJNG
Federal authorities arrested Yesenia “N”, the private secretary of Mayor Grecia Quiroz Garcia, in Uruapan, Michoacan, for her alleged connection to the murder of former mayor Carlos Manzo Rodriguez, which occurred in November 2025.
The arrest was made during an operation led by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) in the city center, in a case that is emerging as one of the key lines of inquiry in the investigation into the mayor's murder.
According to information published by the weekly magazine Proceso, the arrest is related to the hypothesis that Manzo's former private secretary provided sensitive information about the mayor's schedule and movements to members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, identified as the perpetrators of the crime.
The state prosecutor's office had already warned, during previous hearings in the case, about the possible involvement of someone close to the mayor, based on messages included in the case file.
According to the newspaper El Financiero, Yesenia joined Carlos Manzo's team in September 2024 as his private secretary and remained in the position after Grecia Quiroz was appointed mayor, following her husband's murder.
Just two days before her arrest, the official had shared images on social media in which she appeared alongside the mayor during the 2026 Three Kings Festival in Uruapan, confirming her continued presence within the municipal government.
After Manzo's murder, Yesenia also posted farewell messages in which she referred to the former mayor as her "leader and friend," and expressed that the city was in mourning.
Hours before Yesenia's arrest, the head of the SSPC, Omar Garcia Harfuch, announced during Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum's morning press conference that there was sufficient information to continue with further arrests related to the murder of the mayor of Uruapan.
However,Neither the Michoacan Attorney General's Office nor federal authorities have officially detailed the specific charges against the official or the degree of involvement attributed to her.
