Man arrested at Mexico airport for transporting cocaine hidden in a wheelchair
Although the passenger sought to evade the controls by simulating a disability, he did not manage to prevent the detection of the drug by the X-ray system
Elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), in coordination with customs agents of the International Airport of Mexico City, detained a man who was transporting approximately 8.8 kilos of cocaine hidden in a wheelchair.
This action was carried out as part of the inspection and surveillance works at the Airport with the support of a canine binomial, which of It was detected that a passenger was transporting the illicit cargo in a wheelchair, so it was inspected with an “X-ray” system.
The authorities reported that the passenger sought to evade the controls by simulating a disability, a strategy that did not manage to prevent the detection of the drug.
It was using the "X" ray system that were able to identify several objects that did not match with the materials of the chair and by checking thoroughly they found eight packages with the drug.
The cocaine, separated into eight packages, was placed strategically inside the chair.
According to a statement issued by the Security Cabinet, this seizure represents 18,000 doses of cocaine which equivalent approximately to 1.9 m million pesos (around $110,000 dollars), which implies a significant economic affectation to the financial structure of criminal groups.
This drug seizure occurs after the increase in security measures in the airport facilities of the Ciu city of Mexico, due to the start of the World Soccer, whose inauguration will be next June 11 in the capital of that country.
