Explosive attack in Sinaloa left a sailor and 10 criminals dead
Naval personnel were attacked with improvised explosive devices while carrying out operational tasks
At least 10 members of a criminal group died and an element of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) lost his life during a series of clashes in the municipalities of Mazatlán and El Rosario, in Sinaloa, reported the Security Cabinet of the Government of Mexico.
According to the official report, the first attack occurred in the community of San Marcos, in Mazatlán, where naval personnel were attacked with improvised explosive devices while carrying out operational tasks.
As a result of the attack, one sailor died and three other personnel were injured, one of them seriously.
After the attack, federal forces deployed an operation in the region that led to a second confrontation in the municipality of El Rosario. During that action, 10 attackers died and three people were arrested for their alleged relationship with a criminal group.
The authorities also seized high-powered weapons, magazines, cartridges and tactical equipment, which were made available to the Attorney General's Office to integrate the investigations.
The Security Cabinet noted that the operations are part of actions to reinforce security in southern Sinaloa, an area affected by the dispute between organized crime groups.
The federal authorities reiterated that they will continue operations in the entity to locate those responsible for the attacks against the security forces and restore security conditions in the region.
